This John Daly cocktail is aspiked Arnold Palmer made with homemade lemonade from scratch, freshly brewedblack tea, and vodka. A batch recipe that serves 4, best made ahead and chilledfor at least an hour before serving. The homemade lemonade is what makes itworth making.
Let the tea steep for 5-7 minutes to infuse its robust flavor.
Once steeped, remove the tea bags and allow the tea to cool to room temperature.
Prepare the Lemonade:
In a pitcher or jug, combine freshly squeezed lemon juice and granulated sugar.
Stir well until the sugar completely dissolves.
Add 1 1/2 cups of cold water to the pitcher with the lemonade mixture. Stir until well combined.
Combine and Chill:
Pour the cooled black tea into the pitcher with the lemonade. Stir gently to blend the flavors.
Pour in the vodka, starting with 1/2 cup and adjusting to taste. Stir well to incorporate.
Place the pitcher in the refrigerator and chill the spiked Arnold Palmer for at least an hour.
When you are ready to serve, fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the chilled John Daly over the ice. Garnish each glass with lemon slices and a sprig of fresh mint.
Notes
Use freshly squeezed lemon juice. This is the most important thing. Bottled lemon juice makes the lemonade taste flat. Fresh lemons take 5 minutes and make a drink that tastes completely different.Don't over-steep the tea. 5-7 minutes is the sweet spot. Beyond that, the tea turns bitter and throws off the balance with the lemonade. If you want stronger tea flavor, use an extra bag rather than steeping longer.Chill for at least an hour. The batch needs time for the flavors to meld. Made it right before serving? Pour over a lot of ice and it will still be good, but an hour in the fridge makes it noticeably better.Try sweet tea vodka. If you want to lean into the Southern Arnold Palmer vibe, swap regular vodka for sweet tea vodka for an extra layer of flavor.Storage: Keep in a covered pitcher in the fridge for up to 3 days. Give it a stir before serving as the ingredients can settle. Don't add ice to the pitcher or it will dilute as it sits.
