The Best Bartaco Margarita (Their Signature Recipe)
If you’ve been to Bartaco before, you know that they are best known for their fresh ingredients and to-die-for margaritas. This Bartaco Margarita recipe is the best take of their signature cocktail. With my recipe, you can enjoy a classic Bartaco margarita at home (no bartending skills necessary)! Plus, I have tons of other cocktail recipes you might love.

Bartaco is one of my favorite casual restaurants. They have my favorite fish tacos (which you can have lettuce-wrapped), and Bartaco’s margarita is my absolute favorite! This Bartaco margarita recipe is reminiscent of a sunny spring day, enjoying good vibes outside with a drink! All you need for this recipe are some premium ingredients (citrus juices, tequila, etc.), and you’ll have the perfect cocktail. Follow along with my recipe for the ultimate #bartacoathome experience – you won’t want to miss this!
Ingredients

- Tequila – Bartaco uses its own blend of tequila, called Libélula Tequila, for a unique kick. At home, go with any high-quality tequila you like (añejo tequila, blanco tequila, etc.). I like to use tequila blanco or silver tequila at home.
- Fresh lime juice – Bursting with zesty citrus goodness, fresh lime juice adds a bright and tangy flavor essential for the perfect balance in every sip of your margarita. I juiced mine right before I made this cocktail with fresh limes!
- Agave – Nature’s sweetener, agave syrup, adds a touch of sweetness that complements the tartness of the lime for this perfect Bartaco margarita recipe.
- Cointreau – This orange liqueur brings a subtle hint of citrus complexity, enhancing the overall flavor profile of your margarita.
- Ice cubes – You can’t forget ice cubes for a super cold, classic margarita!
- Lime wedge (for garnish): A simple but crucial addition, a lime wedge on the rim adds extra citrus pop and visual appeal to your perfectly crafted margarita.
Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: Fill a shaker with ice. Pour in 1.5 oz of fresh lime juice. Add 1.5 oz of your favorite tequila to the shaker.

Step 2: Next, measure out 1 oz of Cointreau and add it to the mix. Finally, add a touch of sweetness with 0.5 oz of agave nectar.

Step 3: Shake the ingredients vigorously to chill the mixture.

Step 4: Optional: Salt the rim of your glass.

Step 5: Add ice to a cocktail glass.

Step 6: Strain the margarita into your glass filled with ice.

Tips and Notes
- High-quality ingredients – Opt for any high-quality type of tequila, fresh limes, and a reputable orange liqueur like Cointreau for the best flavor.
- Fresh-squeezed lime juice – Always use fresh lime juice for that vibrant, citrusy punch. It makes a noticeable difference in the overall taste.
- Agave adjustment – Adjust the amount of agave nectar based on your sweetness preference. Start with 0.5 oz and add more if needed.
- Shake it up – Shake the ingredients vigorously with ice. This not only chills the drink but also ensures proper mixing, creating a well-balanced margarita.
- Ice matters – Use fresh ice in your glass to keep the margarita crisp and cold. You can even consider using large ice cubes to minimize dilution.

I love Bartaco’s margaritas and this recipe tastes just like them!
I’ve never been to Bartaco, but I make a similar margarita in my home after attempting to copy the “el primo” margarita from my favorite local Mexican restaurant.
My recipe is the same as the Bartaco recipe except that I add a splash (1/2 ounce) of amaretto to the mix. I like Lazzaroni amaretto above all others, but any amaretto will do.
My friends always ask for my margaritas.
Sounds delicious!
